Samsung Electronics unveiled its new ultra-high-speed portable solid-state drives (SSD) "P9" and "P7," equipped with the next-generation USB4 interface.
Samsung Electronics said on the 26th (local time) that it introduced two models in the portable SSD P series at Gamescom 2026, the world's largest game show, held in Cologne, Germany.
The new products target environments where data use is growing, such as ultra-high-resolution video, artificial intelligence (AI) content, and large-scale games. The lineup consists of the P9, a professional flagship model, and the P7, which can be used across a range of devices.
Based on the USB4 interface, the P9 supports transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB per second for sequential reads and 3,800MB per second for sequential writes. Compared with the previous T series (T9, T7), sequential read and write speeds are about twice as fast.
In particular, among 8TB USB4 portable SSDs, the P9 achieved a world first with a transfer speed of 4,000MB per second. The product won a "CES 2026 Innovation Award" in recognition of its technology.
Leveraging its strong sequential write performance, the P9 supports "12K direct recording," which records 12K footage directly to external storage at professional filming sites. It targets creators who need to store and edit large RAW photos and ultra-high-resolution video in real time.
The P7, unveiled alongside it, also adopts the USB4 interface. It is compatible with a wide range of devices, including desktops, laptops, smartphones, game consoles, and cameras. It also passed a 2-meter drop test and durability tests for shock and vibration.
Kwon Hyeong-seok, executive vice president of the Brand Product Biz Team in the Memory Business Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "As the use of large-scale data, including AI-based content creation and ultra-high-resolution video, becomes part of daily life, users expect a faster and more stable storage experience," adding, "The portable SSD P series supports fast file saving and backup, delivering the best working environment not only for professionals but also for a wide range of users."
The P9 and P7 each come in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities and will be rolled out sequentially worldwide, including Korea, starting in Sep.
Suggested retail prices for the P9 are 505,000 won for 1TB, 966,000 won for 2TB, 2.005 million won for 4TB, and 4.01 million won for 8TB. The P7 is priced at 431,000 won for 1TB, 817,000 won for 2TB, 1.708 million won for 4TB, and 3.401 million won for 8TB.
