Hancom Group said on the 24th it will sponsor the "2026 2nd Hancom Literary Award," to be held to mark the 100th anniversary of the designation of Hangeul Day.
This year's competition has a total prize pool of 60 million won, with 30 million won awarded to the grand prize winner in the integrated institutional sector. The Hancom Literary Award Promotion Committee will host, and the Korea Poetry and Literature Association will organize.
To commemorate the year marking the 100th anniversary since the Joseon Language Research Society designated "Gagya Day" (now Hangeul Day) in 1926, this year's competition will be held on a larger scale than last year.
Submissions will be accepted regardless of prior debut, and entries are divided into the general/college division and the youth/high school division. The entry fields are three institutional sectors: free verse (three poems), essay (two pieces), and short story (one piece).
In the general/college division, the grand prize winner in the integrated institutional sector will receive 30 million won and a plaque, and each institutional sector's top prize winner will receive 3 million won and a plaque. All institutional sector winning works will be formally published as the "Hancom Literary Award Winners' Collection."
This year's competition introduced a "special call for the youth/high school division" to identify future literary talent early. The eligibility has been expanded to include alternative schools and out-of-school youth, and winners will receive a creative scholarship along with IT devices, Hancom Office software, and one-on-one written feedback with established writers.
Works will be accepted by email through Sept. 30. The results will be announced on Oct. 9, Hangeul Day, on the official Hancom Literary Award website, and the awards ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at Hancom Group Cheongrium.
Jung Hyeon-deok, chair of the Hancom Literary Award Promotion Committee, said, "We will create a stage where newcomers, established writers, and youth can showcase their literary capabilities together."
