AMD has released a calculator that lets corporations compare the expense of running artificial intelligence (AI) directly on cloud and personal computers (PCs) when adopting it at scale. Depending on AI usage and infrastructure configuration, it calculates total expense for up to five years and the break-even point, and suggests the deployment method with the lowest expense.

AMD said on the 24th that it launched the "AMD Client Tokenomics Calculator," which allows corporations' information technology (IT) managers to compare AI adoption expense. A token is the basic unit for processing text in AI, and the calculator estimates the expense of AI operations based on input and output token usage.

Users can enter the number of people in the organization and the analysis period, AI usage per employee, and the cloud AI models to be used. It compares using AI only in the cloud, a local method that processes it directly on corporations' PCs, and a hybrid method that mixes the two.

The calculation results allow comparisons of expected total cost of ownership (TCO) and cumulative expenditure for up to five years. It also shows the break-even point at which the expense invested in local or hybrid methods becomes lower than a cloud-only approach, and the deployment method with the lowest expected expense.

The calculator also factors in input and output token prices by cloud AI model. Users can currently choose OpenAI GPT-5.5, Anthropic Claude Sonnet and Claude Opus, and Google Gemini Pro, or enter prices directly.

In a local AI environment, expense and processing capacity are calculated based on AMD hardware. Users can choose Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, Ryzen AI Max+ 395, and Radeon AI Pro R9700. It derives the required number of devices and expense by reflecting device price, power consumption, daily AI runtime, and token processing speed. In the hybrid method, users can set the share of overall AI tasks to be processed locally—for example, processing half of all tokens locally and sending the rest to the cloud.

An AMD representative said, "We launched the tokenomics calculator to help corporations' IT managers better understand the expense associated with large-scale AI adoption and optimize budgets," adding, "It can be used to compare expense across cloud, local, and hybrid environments and assess economics based on AI usage and infrastructure strategy."
