SK shieldus said on the 24th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Elimnet to strengthen personal data protection and cybersecurity at medical institutions.
The two companies plan to offer an integrated security service tailored to medical institutions by combining SK shieldus' 24-hour managed security service (MSS) and managed detection and response (MDR) with Elimnet's experience in personal data protection for medical institutions and its customer network.
Elimnet is a corporations that provides information and communications technology (ICT) services such as network and information security, internet lines, internet data centers (IDC), and cloud. It has carried out personal data protection and ICT projects for medical institutions, including projects linking hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
The two companies will continuously share information on the latest security threats and vulnerabilities targeting medical institutions and establish a joint response system. They said they will enhance medical institutions' cybersecurity response capabilities by providing connected security services ranging from personal data protection to security operations and monitoring, and threat detection and response. They will also cooperate in discovering new businesses using the two companies' customer networks, as well as in sales and marketing.
According to materials published this year by Korea Social Security Information Service (SSiS), security breaches at domestic medical institutions increased about 3.9 times, from 18 cases in 2020 to 71 in 2024. Over the next five years, the cumulative losses for medical institutions due to security breaches are projected to reach about 1.5324 trillion won.
Kim Byung-mu, head of the cyber business division (vice president) at SK shieldus, said, "Cyber threats targeting medical institutions are evolving beyond information leaks to a level that affects the continuity of medical services and patient safety," and added, "We will help strengthen medical institutions' cyber resilience and create a safe digital healthcare environment."
