LG Uplus said on the 23rd that a total of 5,009 entries were submitted to the "Youth AI Shorts Festival," which it hosted with YouTube.
The "Youth AI Shorts Festival" is a shorts video contest created to spread a content production culture using Generative AI, and it was held for the second time following last year. As part of the "National AI Competition" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT, it ran from June 8 to July 31.
The contest was operated in two categories: the "Simply" category, which uses Google's Generative AI model Gemini to express one's individuality, and the "Arts" category, which centers on voice.
LG Uplus also held an offline pop-up exhibition and AI educator classes at the participatory art platform "U+ilssangbiilsang-ui Teum." During the event period, more than 3,000 people visited, and 331 people participated in the 15 AI educator classes. The classes were structured by level from beginner to advanced and offered hands-on training from writing prompts to producing videos.
Judging was conducted by experts in content and storytelling, AI creativity, and AI technology and academia. Kim Su-bin of the Seoul Institute of the Arts film department submitted a work that used AI to realize a fantasy genre that had been difficult to attempt due to production costs. Visual artist Kim Gi-ram combined voice and AI to express reflections on "humanity," and creator Ju Jae-hun captured the babbling of a son, 11 months old, in a work.
Winners will take part in a six-night, eight-day AI training program next month, visiting Google's office in San Francisco and Dataland in LA. The winning works are scheduled to be exhibited on Sept. 16 at the newly opened "U+ilssangbiilsang-ui Teum."
Kim Da-rim, head of marketing communications at LG Uplus, said, "The Youth AI Shorts Festival is a program designed to help more young people experience Generative AI easily and familiarly and express themselves through their own content," adding, "We will continue to work with diverse partners to expand the AI creative ecosystem."
