LG Uplus said on the 18th that it will team up with Mercedes-Benz Korea to load its self-developed real-time video channel service, "Live TV+," into the new vehicle The new S-Class. LG Uplus plans to serve as Mercedes-Benz Korea's official software partner, handling everything from service development to content provision and operations.
"Live TV+" is a service that lets users watch a total of 28 broadcast channels in the car, including news, golf, music, entertainment, and kids. Users can access their desired channel immediately without a separate account authentication process.
In particular, instead of DMB, it reliably delivers content over an in-vehicle wireless-communication-based method, enabling uninterrupted viewing even in areas with weak signals, such as underground parking lots or tunnels. The company said independent viewing is also possible on multiple displays installed in the vehicle, such as the driver's seat and front passenger seat, so all occupants can freely enjoy the channels they want.
Live TV+ features a dedicated Mercedes-Benz brand channel, serving as a "brand hub" that goes beyond simple video service to continuously deliver brand content such as new-vehicle introductions and campaign videos.
Leveraging its own connected-car development experience and IPTV/mobile TV operating experience, LG Uplus developed a dedicated UX optimized for the Mercedes-Benz vehicle environment in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Korea. Reflecting the characteristics of the Mercedes-Benz brand and its customers, as well as the latest MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience, in-vehicle infotainment system), it implements a layout that reduces eye distraction, fast channel browsing, and screen transitions based on driving/parking state changes. This maintains MBUX's unique characteristics while improving the convenience of using real-time content in the vehicle.
LG Uplus plans to continue working with various automakers to steadily expand the scope of its in-vehicle infotainment services.
Bae Jun-hyung, lead of the Mobility Business TF at LG Uplus, said, "This service is the result of adapting LG Uplus' media operating capabilities to Mercedes-Benz's vehicle environment," adding, "We will continue to broaden our collaboration with global automakers and further advance the service so customers can enjoy more convenient and differentiated media experiences in their cars."
