There is an outlook that OpenAI's annualized revenue will surpass $40 billion (about 56.6 trillion won). That would be double from late last year, and observers said it could add momentum to OpenAI's initial public offering (IPO) preparations.
Bloomberg News reported on the 13th (local time), citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, that OpenAI's annualized revenue is expected to top $40 billion. Annualized revenue is an indicator that estimates yearly sales based on results from a specific period.
Sources said revenue is being driven by the rapid growth of coding artificial intelligence (AI) models, paid subscription services, and advertising. Consumer-facing services are also steadily growing.
OpenAI is locked in fierce competition with Anthropic to win corporations as customers. Both are pursuing IPOs, and Anthropic is expected to debut on the stock market as early as this fall, ahead of OpenAI. Anthropic said in May that its annualized revenue had surpassed $47 billion.
However, Bloomberg noted that the two companies may use different methods to calculate annualized revenue, making direct comparisons difficult.
Ahead of its IPO and to accelerate growth, OpenAI last year appointed Dali Rajic, president of the cybersecurity corporations Wiz, as its new chief revenue officer (CRO). Greg Brockman, OpenAI co-founder and president, announced the hiring of Rajic as CRO and said, "Annualized revenue last month increased more than 20% from the previous month."
