The number of minority shareholders in LG Electronics more than doubled in six months, surpassing 1.2 million.
According to a semiannual report disclosed by LG Electronics on the 14th, as of the end of June this year, minority shareholders numbered 1,227,359, up about 716,000 from 511,135 at the end of last year. Shares held by minority shareholders totaled 95,180,236, accounting for 58.43% of all common shares.
It appears that individual investors also increased rapidly as LG Electronics' stock price rose sharply this year. The semiannual report showed that the monthly high of LG Electronics common stock climbed from 109,300 won in Jan. to 293,000 won in May and 392,500 won in Jun. The average stock price in Jun. was 246,671 won.
LG Electronics is also speeding up expansion into new businesses this year, including Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) data center cooling solutions. After incorporating Bear Robotics as a consolidation subsidiary this year, the company established a Robotics Business Center and unveiled the home robot "LG Cloid." The semiannual report also listed expansion of the Robotics business and AI data center heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) business as key management activities.
LG Electronics is also pushing to expand shareholder returns. It will cancel treasury shares worth 100 billion won acquired this year within the year, and plans to carry out an additional 100 billion won in shareholder returns next year.
The total number of employees at LG Electronics stood at 33,569 as of the end of June this year. The average salary per employee in the first half was 58 million won.
