LG Electronics will expand its business-to-business (B2B) medical monitor business by launching a new 40-inch diagnostic monitor approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
LG Electronics said on the 12th it will launch the 40-inch diagnostic monitor "40HT513D." The new product uses a curved IPS Black panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio, supports 5120×2160 resolution, and about 11 megapixels (MP).
LG Electronics designed the product so work that used to require three 3MP-class monitors can be done on a single screen. Current and past images from X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and electronic medical records (EMR) can be displayed simultaneously for side-by-side comparison.
It also comes with a "3PBP (3 Picture By Picture)" feature that splits one screen into three zones to display different video sources. The focus was on eliminating the bezels between screens that occur when multiple monitors are used side by side and reducing eye movement caused by switching screens.
Jeong Seung-eun, vice director of medical services at The Catholic University of Korea Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital and president of the Korean Society of Radiology, used the new product for about seven weeks and said, "Thanks to the wide, bezel-free monitor, I was able to check multiple screens efficiently," noting, "There is no sense of disconnection from borders between screens, and the curved display improved the reading environment."
The new product also has a built-in "KVM switch" that can control two PCs with a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Move the mouse cursor to the screen border to switch PCs, and move files with drag-and-drop.
A calibration sensor for managing screen brightness and contrast is applied in a detachable form. The sensor tip can be stored inside during normal use and taken out when screen calibration or performance measurement for medical image reading is needed. Because the sensor can be removed, maintenance is also possible.
Software features were also strengthened. "Focus View" highlights the area of interest with just mouse and keyboard operations and darkens the rest of the screen. "Pathology" mode adjusts resolution and color to make pathological structures such as cells appear clearer.
Multiple diagnostic monitors installed in hospitals can be managed remotely through LG Electronics' "LG Calibration Studio Medical." It performs quality control tests that meet various standards and allows results to be checked on a central server, and it sends alerts to administrators if an abnormality occurs.
LG Electronics plans to continue expanding its lineup of diagnostic monitors approved by the FDA to target the medical display market. Lee Chung-hwan, head of the display business unit (executive vice president) at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to strengthen our lineup of diagnostic monitors approved by the FDA to enhance product competitiveness in the B2B medical monitor market."
