GBike, which operates the shared mobility platform GCOO, said on the 11th that to mark GCOO's ninth anniversary, combined rides on bicycles and e-scooters have surpassed 290 million. The total distance traveled is about 383 million kilometers, roughly the equivalent of circling the Earth about 9,545 times.
Recently, the pace of use has also been accelerating. While it took 20 months for cumulative rides to grow from 100 million to 200 million, it took 16 months to approach 300 million from 200 million.
GBike said users in their 20s and 30s are driving the growth. Of the roughly 7 million cumulative users, people in their 20s and 30s accounted for 53%. On a monthly active users (MAU) basis, the share of users in their 20s and 30s was 57.56%. The company estimated that about 3 out of every 10 people in their 20s and 30s in Korea have used GCOO.
GCOO's service areas have also been expanding. GCOO currently operates in 157 basic local governments nationwide and has entered all 17 metropolitan local governments.
Meanwhile, GBike has recently been expanding beyond shared mobility into the battery exchange infrastructure business. Through battery swapping stations (BSS), it provides battery replacement, charging, storage and condition management. In the first half of this year, BSS usage increased more than fourfold from the same period a year earlier.
GBike plans to expand BSS nationwide and build an open BSS ecosystem that various personal mobility devices can use together, creating a new urban energy infrastructure.
Its overseas business is also expanding. After first entering overseas markets in 2023, GBike now operates services in 14 cities across four countries, including the United States, Thailand, Vietnam and Ghana.
Overseas revenue surpassed $1 million annually for the first time in 2024. This year, it exceeded $1 million in the first half alone.
Chief Executive Yoon Jong-su of GBike said, "We will continue to expand the energy infrastructure that allows more citizens to enjoy eco-friendly travel as part of daily life, and create a sustainable mobility environment together with cities."
