HANMI Semiconductor will establish a U.S. subsidiary to step up its push into the North American semiconductor market.
HANMI Semiconductor said on the 10th it will establish a U.S. unit, "HANMI USA, Inc.," by investing $1.5 million (about 2.1 billion won).
The new subsidiary will be based in San Jose, California, the heart of the U.S. semiconductor industry, and is set to begin full operations in the fourth quarter. It will handle development and sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and related parts and materials locally.
The company said it decided to set up the subsidiary to respond preemptively to expanding investment in U.S. semiconductor production facilities driven by growth in the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market, including high bandwidth memory (HBM). The strategy is to strengthen technical support for local customers and boost sales competitiveness.
