Samsung Electronics is joining hands with Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to expand a mobile ticketing service that uses Galaxy smartphones.
Samsung Electronics said that starting on the 10th it will launch a "paperless ticket" service that lets users store KORAIL tickets in Samsung Wallet and use them. Instead of receiving a paper ticket at the station counter, riders can check their tickets on a smartphone.
After a user agrees to use the service in Samsung Wallet and pays for a ticket to Samsung Wallet at a KORAIL station counter, the mobile ticket is automatically registered in the wallet. Tickets purchased in the unified rail application "KORAIL+," introduced on the 3rd, can also be moved to Samsung Wallet using the Add to Wallet feature.
Tickets registered in Samsung Wallet can be returned and refunded directly in the app. They also sync with Galaxy Calendar and Now Brief, allowing users to receive alerts before train departure and manage travel schedules.
With the high-speed rail operations integration in Sep., SRT services that switch to KTX-Sancheon will also support Samsung Wallet registration starting with Sep. tickets.
Samsung Electronics expects to lower production and disposal expenses and save resources as the use of paper tickets declines. Vice President Chae Won-cheol, head of the Digital Wallet Team in the MX Division at Samsung Electronics, said the company will continue to expand services that both enhance the convenience of mobile tickets and reduce paper use, leveraging its collaboration with KORAIL.
