LG Uplus verified technology in which artificial intelligence (AI) detects signs of abnormal internet quality and restores the network on its own.
LG Uplus said on the 9th that, using Broadcom and a Wi-Fi 8 platform, it demonstrated an automatic recovery technology in which AI analyzes and optimizes the home network status. The AI computation is processed inside the home router, not on a cloud server, using an "Edge AI" approach.
When internet quality degradation is anticipated, AI automatically adjusts network settings for optimization, and if a problem occurs, it restores service on its own to maintain stable quality.
LG Uplus used Broadcom's Wi-Fi 8 platform equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and streamlined the network quality prediction AI model, previously run in a cloud environment, so it can also operate on the router.
LG Uplus said the demonstration is meaningful in that it expands the role of the router from a simple internet consolidation device to an AI-based quality management platform.
Lee Jin-hyeok, managing director at LG Uplus Consumer Service Development Lab, said, "This demonstration is a meaningful result that confirms the potential of Edge AI technology, which runs AI directly inside network equipment," adding, "As we have taken the first step toward realizing an intelligent home network in which AI autonomously manages customer-perceived quality, we will expand cooperation with global technology partners and continue to advance the related technologies."
