A forecast says half of corporations worldwide will adopt Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) within two years.
Market research firm Gartner said in its recently published "2026 key AI trends in China" report that the adoption rate of Chinese AI models among global corporations will surge from 5% last year to 50% by 2027.
As the market shifts away from relying on a single AI toward using multiple AIs tailored to different business purposes, more corporations are expected to choose Chinese AI for its performance relative to price.
Recently, Moonshot AI's latest model, "Kimi K3," posted scores on various benchmarks comparable to the top-tier models from Anthropic and OpenAI. Some experts say the U.S.-China AI technology gap has narrowed from 6 to 9 months in the past to about 2 to 3 months recently. Yan Bin, a senior research director at Gartner, said, "Chinese AI models are open-weight, so corporations can adjust them to their purposes and add safeguards."
As China pushes its technology self-reliance policy and accelerates building a "full-stack AI ecosystem" spanning domestic AI models, semiconductors and robots, Gartner also forecast that by 2030, the share of Chinese AI accelerators used in AI infrastructure by Chinese corporations will exceed 50%.
