Dolby Laboratories said on the 7th that it will apply the next-generation video technology "Dolby Vision 2" to some Hisense TVs. It plans to expand supported models and regions through future firmware updates.
Dolby and Hisense said they will first apply Dolby Vision 2 to the 2026 Hisense UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 models. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America, the U7 Pro model will be used instead of the U7. The rollout starts with products that use Google TV or the VIDAA operating system (OS). They will also be the first TV lineup to support Dolby Vision 2 Max.
Dolby's image processing in Dolby Vision 2 can also be applied to existing movies, TV shows, games and sports content that support Dolby Vision. Content providers such as CANAL+, iQIYI and Peacock also decided to adopt Dolby Vision 2's expanded color rendering capabilities.
Dolby Vision 2 builds on the existing Dolby Vision and strengthens the video processing engine and the content-specific automatic picture adjustment. For TV makers, it is offered in two forms: the standard "Dolby Vision 2" and the premium "Dolby Vision 2 Max."
The core feature, "Content Intelligence," uses metadata in the content to automatically adjust the screen based on scenes and viewing conditions. It changes picture quality to match the characteristics of the content, from dark movie scenes to fast-motion video such as sports and games.
An "Intensity Slider," which lets users directly adjust the degree of picture expression, is also included. It corrects contrast that can drop due to viewing angle or external light reflections and lets users set the depth and intensity of the picture to their preferences. Dolby Vision 2 Max, applied to premium products, adds features such as "Authentic Motion," "Light Sense 2" and "Pro Settings."
Authentic Motion allows content creators to adjust motion portrayal for each video. It is used to reduce the so-called "Soap Opera Effect," in which artificially smoothing motion makes films lose their distinctive look.
Light Sense 2 detects ambient lighting conditions to adjust screen brightness and rendering. It is designed to preserve detail in dark scenes even in bright spaces while reflecting the content creator's intent as much as possible.
John Couling, executive vice president of entertainment at Dolby Laboratories, said, "With this update, we provide improved picture quality even for existing Dolby Vision content and have laid the foundation for expanding Dolby Vision 2 content going forward."
Sony Ming, general manager of Hisense TV product marketing, said, "Applying Dolby Vision 2 will expand the picture performance of Hisense TVs."
