Kakao announced an artificial intelligence (AI) agent partnership with Coupang Eats. Ordering food to payment in one go is expected to be possible in the KakaoTalk chat window.
Chung Shin-a, Kakao's chief executive, said on the 6th during the company's second-quarter earnings conference call, "The first vertical (specialized area) to be linked to Kakao's agentic AI is food delivery," adding, "We will announce a partnership with Coupang Eats soon."
Chung said, "After Coupang Eats is linked as an agent for 'Kanana in KakaoTalk,' Kanana's On-device AI model will identify the intent to order delivery food in KakaoTalk and, based on the preferences accumulated by the user, suggest menus so that ordering and payment can take place naturally within the chat room."
Chung said, "We are holding several concrete discussions so that the agent AI experience in KakaoTalk can implement through to transaction," adding, "We will implement the actual service in the near future."
Chung said, "It may look like a simple addition of a function to order food in Talk, but it is meaningful in that it is the first step toward creating a new usage habit in which AI connects the user's intent to actual action and solves repetitive, everyday behaviors through AI."
Kakao plans to expand the AI agent ecosystem into various vertical areas that users frequently use in daily life, such as commerce, reservations, travel and payments.
