Samsung Electronics will extend the early activation period on the back of strong demand for its new foldable phones. The models eligible for the early activation extension are the carrier-sold wide-type "Galaxy Z Fold8 512GB and 1TB" and "Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra 1TB."
On the 5th, the industry said Samsung Electronics had originally announced the early activation period for the "Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra 1TB" and "Galaxy Z Fold8 Fold 512GB and 1TB" from Aug. 4 to 7, but extended it through the 31st of this month. The supply schedule was delayed as demand exceeded expectations.
Samsung Electronics said on the 4th that a total of 1.44 million units were sold during the seven-day domestic pre-sale for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8, held from the 28th of last month to the 3rd of this month. That means about 140 units were sold per minute during the pre-sale period. Among the new models, the Fold8 led the boom, accounting for about 70% of total sales. Accordingly, the Galaxy Z Fold8 extended the early activation period for both the 512GB and 1TB models. In particular, customers in their teens to 30s accounted for half of the reservations on Samsung.com.
The general release date remains the 7th of this month as scheduled.
A Samsung Electronics official said, "We are extending the early activation period because reservations exceeded the prepared volume." As a result, pre-order customers can still receive pre-order benefits such as the double storage upgrade even if they activate by the end of this month.
