U.S. semiconductor corporations AMD set a record high for quarterly revenue in fiscal 2026 second quarter (April–June) on growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators and server central processing units (CPUs). Operating profit in the period swung to a surplus of about 2.8 trillion won from a loss a year earlier.

AMD said on the 4th (local time) that second-quarter GAAP revenue was $11.54 billion (about 16.45 trillion won) and operating profit was $1.99 billion (about 2.84 trillion won). Revenue rose 50% from a year earlier and 13% from the prior quarter. Operating profit increased 35% from the prior quarter, and the operating margin was 17%.

In the second quarter last year, it posted an operating loss of $134 million (about 190 billion won). At the time, $800 million (about 1.14 trillion won) in inventory and related expense was recognized due to U.S. government export restrictions on the Instinct MI308 data center graphics processing unit (GPU).

Data center business led second-quarter growth this year. Data center institutional sector revenue was $6.7 billion (about 9.55 trillion won), up 107% from a year earlier. That accounted for 58% of total revenue. Sales of the EPYC server CPUs and Instinct AI accelerators increased at the same time.

Client and gaming institutional sector revenue was $3.8 billion (about 5.42 trillion won), up 6% from a year earlier. Of that, the client business, which sells Ryzen processors for PCs, recorded $3.1 billion (about 4.42 trillion won), up 23%.

Gaming business revenue was $779 million (about 1.11 trillion won), down 31%. The decrease was due to lower sales of semi-custom chips supplied for game consoles. Embedded institutional sector revenue, which supplies chips to industries such as industrial and automotive, was $977 million (about 1.39 trillion won), up 19%.

AMD plans to expand supply of its rack-level AI system Helios in the second half. Helios integrates AMD's CPUs, GPUs, and networking chips into a single server rack. AMD said it is supplying Helios to corporations such as Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Oracle, as well as to cloud service providers.

AMD presented a maximum third-quarter revenue outlook of $13.3 billion (about 18.95 trillion won) this year. Lisa Su, AMD chair and chief executive officer (CEO), said, "EPYC demand is rising quickly, and Instinct supply and Helios shipments are expanding," adding, "AI is significantly increasing computing demand across all markets, and we expect to continue growing in the second half."
