AI Semiconductor corporations FuriosaAI said on the 5th that it will take part in a next-generation AI data center construction project being pushed in Stockholm, Sweden, together with U.S. AI infrastructure corporations I/ONX HPC and data center development and operations corporations Velox.
The project is an AI data center being built in Stockholm, Sweden, with a capacity of 15 megawatts (MW). The first-phase facility of 2 MW will start operating in early 2027, and an additional 8 MW will be built within the same year. It is slated to be expanded in stages to 15 MW over the long term.
In phase one, FuriosaAI will supply 1,800 of its own Neural Processing Unit (NPU) RNGD boards. Including the subsequent expansion phase, more than 8,800 RNGD AI inference accelerators will be introduced sequentially. As a case where FuriosaAI's AI inference infrastructure is being fully applied to a large-scale European AI data center, it is evaluated as a milestone showing that the global commercialization of AI inference infrastructure has entered full swing after RNGD mass production.
In this project, RNGD is mounted on I/ONX HPC's high-density AI server platform "Symphony SixtyFour," configuring a heterogeneous AI computing environment together with the graphics processing unit (GPU). RNGD is used for large language model and agentic AI inference, and GPUs are used for model training and other computations, a design that optimizes both the performance and power efficiency of the entire data center. FuriosaAI provides the RNGD hardware and software stack to support building a high-performance, low-latency AI inference environment, while Velox handles data center development and operations and I/ONX HPC is responsible for system integration and AI platform provision.
Recently, major European countries have been pushing securement of Sovereign AI and the building of power-efficiency-centered sustainable AI infrastructure as core strategies, and demand for high-performance, high-efficiency AI inference infrastructure is growing rapidly. In particular, Sweden, with its stable power infrastructure and mature data center ecosystem, is drawing attention as a key hub for European AI infrastructure, and this project also plans to provide AI inference services to corporations and cloud providers across Europe.
Recently, Samsung SDS also launched a commercial NPU-as-a-Service based on RNGD, and an RNGD-based AI inference hub has been built at the Equinix data center in Lisbon, Portugal. The commercialization of FuriosaAI's AI inference infrastructure is rapidly expanding beyond Korea to global markets such as Europe and the Middle East.
