Webtoon, book, and comic platform Ridi said on the 5th that the fantasy webtoon "The painter who draws dungeons" set the highest-ever revenue for a Ridi fantasy webtoon immediately after its release. Buoyed by the webtoon's popularity, sales of the original web novel were also counted as having increased by about 80 times.
The webtoon "The painter who draws dungeons" is based on a web novel of the same name that won the top prize in the fantasy web novel institutional sector at last year's Ridi Awards, and is a hunter genre work that tells the story of an art teacher who opens their eyes in the world inside a drawing they made after a fire accident. Immediately after its release in Jul., it climbed into the upper ranks of X (formerly Twitter) real-time trends.
The webtoon's success also led to consumption of the original web novel. For two weeks after the webtoon's release, sales of the original web novel surged about 80 times from the comparable period just before. A Ridi official said, "Readers drawn in by the webtoon continued on to the original, showing a consumption trend of enjoying a single intellectual property (IP) across various content."
They added, "We plan to continue creating an environment where a single work can be enjoyed more richly through a variety of content."
