Netmarble Cultural Foundation said on the 4th that it has revamped the Netmarble Game Museum library space and will run its first opening exhibition, "Press Start, Korea PC Game Stage," as a permanent exhibition.
The exhibition was prepared to shed light on the history of PC games that laid the foundation for Korea's game industry between the heyday of console games in the 1980s and the spread of online games in the 2000s. It introduces the challenges and development process of first-generation developers who created domestic PC games even amid an environment of weak copyright awareness and rampant illegal copying.
The exhibition space features a timeline covering the history of Korean PC games from the 1990s through the 2000s and beyond, along with physical displays of representative package games from each era. A keyword exhibition that presents the growth of Korea's PC game industry under themes such as "people," "content," "technology," and "localization" is also being run.
Netmarble Cultural Foundation also gave the library space a new look. It removed the existing movable walls to separate the area into a book-reading space and an exhibition space, and reconfigured it as a complex cultural space that combines the chronological and keyword exhibitions.
Netmarble Cultural Foundation plans to continue strengthening its role in documenting and preserving game culture and to operate the museum as a place visitors will keep coming back to.
Netmarble Game Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Mondays, with last admission at 5:30 p.m.
