LG Uplus said on the 4th that it acquired PagonetWorks, a corporations specializing in managed detection and response (MDR). It is the second acquisition in about seven years since the 2019 purchase of LG HelloVision.
PagonetWorks is a security specialist corporations considered a leading player in the MDR field in Korea's cybersecurity market. Based on its self-developed security operations platform "DeepACT," it runs a variety of detection rules and response processes. It provides MDR services to clients across industries including finance, manufacturing, and IT. Building on growth in the domestic market, it is expanding its footprint by entering seven Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and the Philippines.
MDR is a service that monitors a corporations's security environment around the clock to detect, analyze, and respond to threats. While traditional security solutions focused on offering threat detection features, MDR is characterized by experts who analyze real security events and carry out the response. corporations can reduce the burden of securing security talent while establishing a higher level of security framework.
LG Uplus plans to internalize PagonetWorks' capabilities in threat detection, analysis, and response to advance its companywide security framework. It will leverage threat intelligence and response know-how accumulated during MDR operations to upgrade its internal detection, analysis, and response systems, and secure proactive response capabilities based on security data. It also aims to strengthen competitiveness in security businesses for corporate clients.
Kwon Yong-hyeon, head of the enterprise business at LG Uplus (executive vice president), said, "This acquisition is a decision to provide more complete security services to corporate clients while taking LG Uplus' security response capabilities up a notch," and added, "We will continue to invest in security and enhance our capabilities to establish ourselves as a security partner customers can trust."
