Kakao Games said on the 3rd that it signed a global publishing (distribution) contract for the new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "ArcheAge S: Strait of Freedom," which XLGAMES is developing.
"ArcheAge S" is a game being produced optimized for a single PC platform environment. Kim Kyung-tae, who served as the first lead planner and producer (PD) of the original "ArcheAge," is leading development as the project head. Released in 2013, "ArcheAge" is a Korea IP that was praised for its deep worldbuilding based on the original novel, high degree of freedom, and large-scale battles.
Through this contract, Kakao Games secured the rights to service "ArcheAge S" in Korea and overseas, strengthening its lineup of new games. Based on the MMORPG publishing and live-ops capabilities it has accumulated, the company plans to carry out marketing and provide stable service, and, in cooperation with the developer, deliver a high-quality game experience to users at home and abroad.
Lee Si-woo, CEO of Kakao Games, said, "We expect 'ArcheAge S' will inherit the fundamental fun of the 'ArcheAge' IP, which has been loved by global users for a long time, while also offering a new experience," adding, "We will make steady preparations so the competitiveness of the 'ArcheAge' IP can be demonstrated in the global market."
