Samsung Electronics said on the 31st it held a signboard unveiling for the EHS heat pump boiler on the 30th at a single-family home in the Aewol area of Jeju, signaling a push to expand the supply of high-efficiency heating solutions.

The EHS heat pump boiler is an integrated solution that supplies indoor heating and hot water by using ambient air heat and electricity. Compared with conventional boilers that use fossil fuels, it can produce more heat per unit of input energy, delivering high energy efficiency.

At a 35-degree outlet water condition used for floor heating, the product recorded a seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of 4.9, achieving about five times the heating energy efficiency relative to power consumption. It also achieved an SCOP of 3.78 at a 55-degree outlet water condition.

It also applies an electric heater and an anti-freeze valve inside the outdoor unit and mounts a drain heater at the bottom of the product to prevent freezing and pipe icing in winter. With a high-efficiency refrigerant compression technology, it can stably supply high-temperature water up to 70 degrees even in minus 15-degree environments.

Users can operate key functions through the touch display installed on the exterior of the product, and they can check indoor temperature and outlet water temperature and control it remotely via the SmartThings application.

A heat pump uses electricity instead of fossil fuels to draw heat from outside air for heating, and it is drawing attention as a next-generation heating and cooling technology that can cut carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. Samsung Electronics plans to continue strengthening its competitiveness in heat pump-based heating solutions in line with the broader electrification of heating.

Kim Yong-hoon, executive director in charge of Korea at Samsung Electronics, said, "The Samsung Electronics EHS heat pump boiler is a solution with high heating efficiency and stable high-temperature water supply performance," adding, "Based on technology proven in real residential environments, we plan to provide customers with a convenient and efficient user experience and contribute to the expansion of the high-efficiency heating market."
