KT Skylife's internet TV (IPTV) service "ipit TV" secured 240,000 subscribers one year after launch. As bundles combining IPTV and internet have sold more, internet subscribers and average revenue per user (ARPU) are also increasing together.
KT Skylife said on the 30th that, as of the end of June, its retained internet subscribers exceeded 660,000. The company explained that ipit TV, introduced in July last year, has been adding about 20,000 subscribers a month on average, driving growth in the internet business.
ipit TV is a product that provides live high-definition broadcasts using KT's internet network. If used together with YouTube Premium, Netflix, Disney+, and Wavve and other over-the-top services (OTT), subscribers can receive a 2,200-won discount each month. Targeting customers who want to use live broadcasts and OTT at a reasonable price helped expand subscriptions.
The company expects it can reach 300,000 ipit TV subscribers and 700,000 internet subscribers by the end of the year. It emphasized that as the share of bundle subscriptions rises, ARPU is improving, strengthening the profitability of the wireline business.
The product lineup has also expanded. On the 8th, it launched "ipit TV Choice," which adds paid channel bundles such as movies, family, and adult to the live broadcast product. Subscribers can switch to their desired genre channel package once a month.
To mark the first anniversary of the launch, in August it will offer four paid channels, including SPOTV Prime and Catch On, free for one month to new subscribers.
