LG Electronics is jointly developing robots for manufacturing sites with Nvidia and expanding the scope of cooperation to artificial intelligence data centers (AIDC) and mobility. It also left open the possibility of a strategic partnership at the platform ecosystem level.
On July 30, Chief Financial Officer Kim Chang-tae, a vice president at LG Electronics, said on the second-quarter earnings conference call, "In the robotics field, we are pursuing a joint project to enable real-world deployment of robots for manufacturing sites by combining LG Electronics' hardware technology and manufacturing capabilities with Nvidia's Digital Twin technology stack."
Kim said, "We are also working together to build a robot data factory, advance a robot foundation model, and develop a simulation and verification platform."
In AIDC, Nvidia's integrated platform is being linked with LG Electronics' infrastructure solutions. Kim said, "We are also collaborating to jointly develop high-density cooling technology, a core task for next-generation AI data centers," adding, "Recently, some models of LG Electronics' cooling distribution unit (CDU) earned Nvidia certification."
Working-level cooperation between the two companies' engineers has also begun in mobility. Kim said, "To develop an AI-based software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform, concrete and direct cooperation has begun between engineers from both companies," adding, "We are currently conducting technical reviews of a next-generation high-performance computing platform and building the development environment."
Kim added, "The two companies share the view that, at a major inflection point in the market called physical AI, there is a need to cooperate across various areas based on each company's core strengths," and "a strategic partnership at the platform ecosystem level is fully on the table."
