Samsung Electronics' System LSI division said it posted record-high first-half revenue, helped by expanded sales of mobile chips and image sensors despite weakness in China's smartphone market.
Vice President Shin Seung-cheol of Samsung Electronics' System LSI division said on the 30th during the second-quarter earnings conference call, "Overall demand was weak due to seasonally slow demand and sluggishness in China's mobile market," but added, "We maintained quarterly revenue by expanding sales of mobile SoCs and image sensors in the volume-zone mobile market, and we recorded the highest first-half revenue ever."
Shin said the division secured orders for a next-generation flagship mobile SoC, and is broadening its growth base by winning new customers across mobile SoCs, image sensors, and LSI products.
For the second half, the division expects a challenging business environment due to rising component prices and slowing consumption. However, it plans to expand sales of next-generation flagship SoCs and foster the custom SoC business, while focusing on strengthening competitiveness in 200-megapixel image sensors and expanding applications.
It also said it will strengthen leadership in the high-spec display driver IC (DDI) market and expand the power semiconductor (Power IC) business to reinforce its portfolio around high value-added operations.
