LG Electronics has completed building a pilot production line for robot actuators and begun initial production. In the second half of this year, it plans to start pursuing orders from potential customers and establish a mass production system in line with order volumes.
On a conference call for second-quarter results held on the 30th, Chief Financial Officer Kim Chang-tae, a vice president at LG Electronics, said, "We are also making meaningful progress in commercializing actuators, a core component of robots," adding, "We have completed construction of the pilot production line and are currently carrying out initial production."
Kim said, "Starting in the second half, we will roll out order-intake activities for potential customers," adding, "We will also push ahead swiftly to build a full-scale mass production system, linked to the level at which order visibility is secured."
LG Electronics has also moved to establish an organization dedicated to the robot business and build a data infrastructure. Kim said, "To drive the Robotics business in a systematic and speedy manner, we established the Robotics Business Center this month," adding, "We will concentrate core capabilities that had been dispersed across each organization to enhance execution and efficiency."
Kim added, "With an opening targeted for the second half, we are building the country's largest Robotics data factory," and said, "We will sequentially deploy cloid robots for proof-of-concept (PoC) testing to secure high-quality robot training data across various work domains."
LG Electronics plans to use the data to advance its robot foundation model and expand collaboration with partners at home and abroad. Through investor relations materials, the company said it established the Robotics Business Center in July and will pursue the opening of the Robotics data factory in the second half and the establishment of an actuator mass production system.
