Samsung will run practical training in manufacturing and technology and a job placement program for 1,000 unemployed young people outside the Seoul metropolitan area. It plans to offer job training tailored to regional industry demand by using affiliates' training facilities and business sites infrastructure.
Samsung held a kickoff ceremony for the "Youth Hope Learning Center" on the 30th at the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Training Center in Yuseong District, Daejeon. Full-scale training will begin on the 3rd of next month in four regions nationwide: Chungcheong, Honam, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang.
The Youth Hope Learning Center is part of the government's youth job competency enhancement and employment support project "K-New Deal Academy." Samsung will run the program by leveraging its experience operating "Hope Stepping Stone 2.0," which has supported the employment and economic independence of young people preparing for self-reliance, and affiliates' training infrastructure.
The curriculum consists of six job fields: ▲ electronics and information technology (IT) manufacturing technicians ▲ heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians ▲ shipbuilding technicians ▲ heavy equipment operator technicians ▲ online advertising and public relations practitioners ▲ baking and pastry technicians. It will link basic competency training with job-specific training and career development. Samsung will offer hands-on, practice-centered training that reflects each region's industrial characteristics, and will also provide trainees with existing infrastructure such as affiliates' cafeterias and shuttle buses.
This year's trainees will be selected in two rounds, first half and second half, for a total of 1,000 people. In this first-half course, 550 people from the four regions nationwide will participate. Second-half trainees will be selected after a recruitment notice next month, and training is scheduled to begin in Nov.
About 250 people attended the opening ceremony, including Vice Minister Kwon Chang-jun of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), Lee So-hee of the People Power Party, Yeo Myung-gu, head of social contribution at Samsung Electronics DS (executive vice president), and trainees from the Chungcheong region. Trainees from Honam, North Gyeongsang, and South Gyeongsang also joined online.
Vice Minister Kwon said, "The K-New Deal Academy is a project backed by the government so that corporations can meet future talent and young people can build their capabilities," adding, "We hope trainees will grow through the Youth Hope Learning Center."
Executive Vice President Yeo Myung-gu said, "The skills learned at the Youth Hope Learning Center will become trainees' competitive edge," adding, "We will cultivate the skilled talent needed in industrial worksites and expand growth opportunities for young people."
