LG Electronics said on the 30th it will hold a large-scale installation art exhibition using 72 55-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays in partnership with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The exhibition will run from the 31st of this month through Nov. 29 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul in Jongno District, Seoul, in the "Seoul Box." It is the second exhibition in the "MMCA X LG OLED Series," jointly organized by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and LG Electronics.
This year features Korean American artist Kim Christine Sun, who is based in Berlin, and her work "Have Many Dumb Fights Against Rock." To that end, LG Electronics built a large curved screen with 72 55-inch OLED displays. The screen shows an animated work that reinterprets the movements of American Sign Language (ASL) and the motion lines of classic cartoons.
LG Electronics took part from the planning stage of the work through the installation and implementation of the display in the exhibition space. Kim has worked with drawing, painting, installation, and media art on themes of language, communication, and accessibility.
Oh Sung-taek, head of marketing communications at the Korea sales division of LG Electronics, said, "We will reproduce the colors and movements intended by the artist on OLED screens to offer an exhibition experience that combines technology and art."
