Samsung Electronics projected that in the third quarter of this year, sales of HBM4, the sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM), will increase more than threefold from the previous quarter. It also expected that in the second half, HBM4 will account for more than 60% of total HBM sales.
Samsung Electronics said at its second-quarter earnings conference call on the 30th, "HBM4 sales in the third quarter of this year are expected to expand more than threefold from the previous quarter," adding, "On a second-half basis, HBM4 sales are expected to comfortably exceed 60% of our total HBM sales."
The company said HBM4 evaluations by each customer have been smoothly wrapped up, and demand is growing quickly in line with customers' ramp-up pace for second-half product production. Accordingly, it said it is expanding production capacity and increasing HBM4 supply as planned.
Samsung Electronics said, "In the second half of this year, we will secure an HBM market share on par with our overall DRAM market share," and added, "We expect to achieve a well-balanced DRAM business portfolio."
It also expressed confidence about next year's HBM business. Samsung Electronics said, "We have already completed discussions with customers on HBM supply for 2027, and based on the technology of HBM4E, for which we supplied samples first in the industry, we judge that we have sufficient product competitiveness to commercialize with major customers as planned."
However, with the spread of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly increasing demand for DRAM for general servers, it plans to flexibly adjust the product mix between HBM and commodity DRAM. Samsung Electronics said, "In a market environment where supply constraints are expected next year as well, we will operate in a balanced manner with HBM and commodity DRAM targeting similar levels of market share."
