Samsung Electro-Mechanics will begin mass production within the year of camera modules for Humanoid Robot and move to target the physical AI market. The strategy is to expand its optics business, which had focused on smartphones, into next-generation growth markets such as Autonomous Driving vehicles and robots.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on the 30th during its second-quarter earnings conference call, "The camera module for humanoids is scheduled to enter initial mass production within the year based on our differentiated optical technology, quality reliability, and global production bases," and "We are also expanding joint development of next-generation products with top-tier customers."
The company said it would actively respond to the growing physical AI market through this.
It will also expand its automotive camera module business. Samsung Electro-Mechanics noted, "With advances in Autonomous Driving technology, demand continues to grow for high-precision sensing and highly reliable cameras, and application areas are rapidly expanding to unmanned Autonomous Driving services such as robotaxis."
Accordingly, it plans to expand product supply in line with global automaker customers' transitions to next-generation platforms and to strengthen its lineup of high-value camera modules for robotaxis.
The company said, "We will strengthen our technology leadership by providing customized solutions for each global customer and by pre-developing next-generation products," adding, "We will secure growth drivers for the optical solutions business based on expanded new applications such as automotive and humanoids."
