Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, will expand its business scope from advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to centralized vehicle control systems and the Autonomous Driving sector.
Samsung Electronics said on the earnings conference call for the second quarter held on the 30th, "Harman, through the acquisition of ZF's ADAS business, has expanded from its existing in-vehicle infotainment and car audio-centered business into the ADAS field, supplying smart camera sensors and high-performance controllers."
It added, "This acquisition is meaningful in that Harman has entered the ADAS market and secured a customer base and a stable growth engine," and "By securing ADAS capabilities in the digital cockpit field, which is Harman's strength, we can proactively respond to the technological shift in which in-vehicle control functions are integrated into centralized controllers."
Samsung Electronics plans to apply information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI) functions inside vehicles through cooperation with Harman and to expand its business into the Autonomous Driving field going forward. The company said, "We will leap forward as a top-tier global automotive electronics company based on synergy with Samsung."
Regarding Sound United, the audio company acquired by Harman, it said, "We will strengthen premium audio brand recognition and solidify our position as an audio specialist," adding, "We will also expand collaboration with Samsung Electronics' AI and connectivity technologies."
