As inquiries from customers about the 1.4-nanometer (nm, one-billionth of a meter) foundry process increase, Samsung Electronics is reviewing securing additional production space.
In its second-quarter earnings conference call on the 30th, Samsung Electronics said, "As customer inquiries about 1.4-nano increase, we are currently reviewing securing additional space," and added, "We plan to flesh out the detailed plan step by step based on customer order status and discussions."
Samsung Electronics' mention of the potential expansion of 1.4-nano production space is a preemptive move to respond to growing demand for advanced nodes. However, it did not disclose the specific investment size, production location, or facility construction timeline.
The company plans to gradually expand 2-nano production capacity at the Taylor facility while also pushing ahead with construction of Taylor 2, aiming for mass production in 2030.
