Wemade's cryptocurrency "Wemix (WEMIX)" was hacked again for the first time in about a year, causing damage worth 7.7 billion won.
On the 28th, according to Wemade, its subsidiary the Wemix Foundation said on its official website the previous day that "5,225,525 Wemix Dollar (WEMIX$) were minted abnormally, converted into WEMIX and USDC.e, and siphoned out through a bridge." It added, "We are investigating the exact cause and how it occurred," and "We have identified and are tracking the attacker's wallet and the path of fund movements, and have requested asset freezes and cooperation from related exchanges and stablecoin issuers."
Wemix Dollar is a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Wemade through the Wemix Foundation, amounting to about 7.7 billion won. In response, Wemix fully suspended the bridge function that moves assets from the mainnet Wemix 3.0 to other Blockchain networks and temporarily halted related services.
Earlier, in March last year, Wemix also suffered a large-scale hacking damage worth 9.0 billion won. An unidentified attacker accessed a wallet within the Wemix Play bridge system, transferred the Wemix coins inside to an external wallet, funneled them to overseas exchanges, and sold them, it was confirmed. At the time, due to security issues, Wemix was delisted with trading support suspended by the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA), a coalition of domestic virtual asset exchanges.
