The Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) is teaming up with police to speed up crackdowns on illegal gambling-linked PC rooms and arcades.
GRAC said on the 28th that the number of on-site enforcement support cases against illegal gambling-linked PC rooms in the first half of this year totaled 248, up 24% from a year earlier. Enforcement support through illegal game content evaluations also rose 18.9% to 1,220 during the same period.
To strengthen police on-site response capabilities, GRAC held a total of 54 training sessions on illegal game enforcement techniques for 1,049 police officers. The number of trainees more than doubled from a year earlier. GRAC said, "We are expanding practical, case-based training to match the trend of diversifying types and operating methods of illegal games."
It also strengthened post-inspections of illegal operations. In re-inspections of illegal gambling-linked PC rooms that were found to have violated facility standards in the second half of last year, GRAC requested administrative action from the relevant local governments against 109 businesses where repeat violations were confirmed.
GRAC also said it would actively support police-planned investigations to arrest those who produce and distribute illegal games.
