Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won are said to be attending Google Camp, a closed-door gathering of chief executives (CEOs) in Sicily, Italy, following the artificial intelligence (AI) Summit in San Francisco.
According to the business community on the 27th, Lee and Chey have reportedly traveled to Sicily to attend Google Camp. The event will be held at the Rocco Forte Verdura Golf Resort in southwestern Sicily at the end of this month.
Google Camp is an event launched in 2013 by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Each year, major figures from global politics and business and the information technology (IT) industry attend, and the attendees, schedule, and discussion topics are not disclosed.
Lee is known to have attended Google Camp for three consecutive years since 2022. Chey first attended the event in 2024. The two reportedly could not attend Google Camp last year as they visited the United States to support U.S.-Korea tariff negotiations.
At this event, the two chairmen are expected to discuss cooperation in AI infrastructure fields such as AI Semiconductor and data centers with executives from global big tech corporations including Google. With demand rising for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers, memory supply and next-generation product development may also be key agenda items.
Earlier, on the 24th, Lee and Chey attended the AI Summit in San Francisco. Lee met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, while Chey unveiled cooperation plans with Nvidia related to AI data centers and next-generation HBM.
In early this month, Lee also attended the Sun Valley Conference in the United States, expanding touchpoints with major semiconductor clients. Chey is likewise broadening cooperation with global big tech, focusing on SK hynix's HBM business and SK Group's AI data center business.
