Naver, Nvidia and Brookfield will invest a total of $10 billion (about 14 trillion won) to expand Korea's national artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. They plan to scale up the AI factory being built at the Sejong data center from the initially planned 55 megawatts (MW) to 200 MW by 2028 and, in the long term, build a 1-gigawatt (GW)-class sovereign AI infrastructure.
On the 25th (Korea time), Nvidia announced this plan to expand Korea's AI factory infrastructure with Naver and Brookfield at the AI Summit in San Francisco. The core of the project is to expand the Nvidia DSX AI factory, unveiled in June at 55 MW, to 200 MW by 2028—more than tripling it.
The AI factory will be built at Naver's hyperscale data center, "Gak Sejong," located in Sejong. Naver also presented a blueprint to expand the AI infrastructure to 1 GW in the long term and build a national-level AI computing platform that corporations, industries and the government can use.
In this investment, Nvidia will invest $1 billion in Naver, and Brookfield signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) to provide up to $9 billion in financing. Naver plans to fund the rest of the project on its own. The expanded AI factory will provide large-scale computing resources so AI startups and corporations in Korea and the United States can develop next-generation AI models, AI agents and AI services.
Lee Hae-jin, Naver's founder and board chair, said, "With Nvidia's strategic investment and infrastructure collaboration with Brookfield, Naver's AI factory vision has entered the full-fledged execution phase," and added, "We will foster a sovereign AI ecosystem with global partners and help strengthen Korea's AI competitiveness."
Jensen Huang, Nvidia's founder and chief executive officer (CEO), said, "AI factories are the core infrastructure that determines national competitiveness in the age of intelligence," and noted, "Together with Naver and Brookfield, we are building sovereign AI infrastructure at a scale that can support Korea's startups and industries."
Sikander Rashid, Brookfield's global head of AI infrastructure, said, "By combining Brookfield's global AI infrastructure investment capabilities, Naver's expertise in AI and data center operations, and Nvidia's accelerated computing technology, we will enhance Korea's AI competitiveness."
The newly built 200 MW AI factory will introduce next-generation GPU platforms "Vera Rubin" and "Blackwell"-based AI systems. As an Nvidia Cloud Partner (NCP), Naver will operate hyperscale infrastructure based on Nvidia's AI full-stack platform.
The two companies will also expand cooperation in AI model development. Naver is advancing its proprietary large-scale AI model "HyperCLOVA X" based on Nvidia's open model "Nemotron 3 Ultra," and is also participating in Nvidia's open model development project "Nemotron Union." In the second half of this year, Naver also plans to launch an AI agent platform in Korea using Nvidia's AI agent software and to develop a digital world model of Seoul using the world foundation model "Cosmos."
Brookfield is an asset manager strong in large-scale real-asset investments such as data centers and power and renewable energy. It currently has about $100 billion in assets under management (AUM) in AI infrastructure fields such as data centers, semiconductors and power, and manages about $12 billion in assets in Korea, focusing on infrastructure, real estate and energy.
