U.S. chipmaker Nvidia, which leads the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, will pursue research on core AI technologies with Seoul National University and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Seoul National University said on the 24th that it is in talks with Nvidia to establish the "Seoul National University–Nvidia AI Technology Center Joint Lab," the first such joint lab at a domestic university.
If the plan is realized, Seoul National University is expected to establish and operate the joint lab together with Nvidia's global university collaboration network, the "Nvidia AI Technology Center (NVAITC)."
Through this, they will join forces to: ▲ identify and support joint projects in Physical AI and Robotics, accelerated computing, and semiconductors ▲ facilitate exchanges among members △ provide internships, mentoring, and more for Seoul National University students ▲ build a national-level sovereign AI test bed by leveraging AI infrastructure and technical exchanges at the Siheung Campus.
Seoul National University has continued its engagement with Nvidia. In April, Madison Huang, senior director and head of Robotics marketing at Nvidia and the elder daughter of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, visited the university's Robotics Institute, followed by a visit from CEO Huang himself to the campus on the 8th of last month.
Seoul National University said the collaboration will greatly help strengthen national AI competitiveness by building a sovereign AI test bed. President Yu Hong-lim of Seoul National University said it "will serve as a catalyst for tangible ripple effects across the domestic AI industry."
