Samsung Electronics labor and management are pushing to implement within the year a plan to use a portion of the special management performance bonus paid to employees in the DS (semiconductor) institutional sector as funding for social contribution. A "1-to-1 matching" method, in which the company contributes an additional amount equal to what employees donate voluntarily, is being considered.
According to the industry on the 23rd, the Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group supra-enterprise labor union (supra-enterprise union) is discussing a plan to announce social-contribution participation measures together while guiding the calculation method and payment criteria for the special management performance bonus.
For social contribution, it is said that a method is under review in which employees voluntarily donate about 0.5% to 1% of the special management performance bonus and the company adds the same amount. Participation is up to the employees, and it is known that the bonus will not be mandatorily deducted.
The DS institutional sector special management performance bonus is a system newly introduced in this year's wage talks. Under the method agreed to by labor and management, 10.5% of business performance becomes the funding source, and employees are paid in company stock. The notice to be issued within the year is expected to include the method for calculating company stock and the payment criteria, rather than the actual payout size. It is also said to be possible that the participation rate in social contribution and the specific matching method will be announced together.
This plan is said to be pursued in consideration of the social responsibility of labor and management and public opinion surrounding the special management performance bonus. However, the timing of the social-contribution rollout, the donation ratio, and the detailed operating method have not been finalized and will be decided after additional consultations.
