Robot Taekwon V, which opened in 1976 and drew explosive nationwide popularity, will be issued as a stamp to mark its 50th anniversary.
The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post said on the 23rd it will issue 700,000 commemorative Robot Taekwon V stamps on the 29th, honoring the steady love it has received over the past half-century. Robot Taekwon V will be used as the lead character for the 2026 Korea Stamp Exhibition, to be held at the Eulji Gate Exhibition Hall of Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul from the 29th to Aug. 2.
The stamp features main characters including Hoon and Younghee, Dr. Kim, Dr. Yoon, and the Tin Robot. It captures the various looks of Robot Taekwon V from its early days to the present. In particular, it is produced in the shape of a round ttakji, evoking childhood nostalgia.
Robot Taekwon V recorded explosive box office results when it opened in 1976. It went on to lead the heyday of Korean animation, unveiling multiple sequels. In the 2000s, after film restoration work, it re-opened in 2007 as a digitally restored version, once again meeting the public across eras and generations.
Park In-hwan, head of Korea Post, said, "We hope it will be an opportunity to reflect on Robot Taekwon V's 50-year history, share memories together, and serve as a joyful medium of communication that bridges generations." The commemorative stamps can be purchased by visiting a nearby main post office or through the online post office.
