LG Electronics is speeding up its push into the global B2B market by building a new production line at its Hai Phong manufacturing subsidiary in Vietnam to expand its functional materials business.
LG Electronics said on the 23rd that it has begun operating production lines for "LG Purotech" and "Easy-Clean enamel," glass powder-based functional materials, at its Hai Phong manufacturing subsidiary in Vietnam.
The Hai Phong production line was built in a dedicated 3,200㎡ space and has an annual capacity of about 2,000 tons. Combined with the existing 4,500-ton annual production line at the Changwon LG Smart Park, the company has secured total production capacity of 6,500 tons.
The company expanded its production base to respond to tighter hygiene and safety standards and rising demand for functional materials. The Hai Phong production line will serve as a key production base targeting global markets, including North America, Europe, China, India, and Southeast Asia. Through a dual production system in Changwon and Hai Phong, the company plans to enhance product supply stability and delivery responsiveness to expand its B2B business.
LG Purotech is a functional antimicrobial and antifungal material that, when added in small amounts to plastic, paint, rubber, and more, suppresses microbial contamination. It can be applied across various industries, including not only home appliances but also building materials, sanitary products, food packaging, and medical devices. Easy-Clean enamel is a coating material used inside cooking appliances that helps easily remove food residue and grease.
The Hai Phong production line automated about 80% of its processes to improve production efficiency and quality consistency, and it upgraded its melting process with precision temperature control technology and refractories erosion minimization technology.
LG Electronics has completed antimicrobial-related regulatory registrations required for entry into the U.S. and European markets and secured about 420 patents related to functional materials. Based on this, it is also expanding development of new functional materials such as "LG Marine Balance," for marine ecosystem restoration, and "LG Mineral Wash," a raw material for laundry detergents.
