Hecto Innovation said on the 22nd that it introduced a "flood risk map around me" that lets users view a range of heavy rain–related data at a glance on its weather platform "Nalssidol."
Nalssidol's "flood risk map around me" is a service that marks flood risk levels on a map around the user's current location in five tiers — ▲ high risk ▲ alert ▲ caution ▲ attention ▲ low. The flood risk level is calculated by combining rainfall data with the five-tier "disaster risk zone" grade from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's disaster safety data sharing platform.
Users can also check the expected rainfall for the next 12 hours by disaster risk zone using data from the Korea Meteorological Administration. A company official said, "By using the 'flood risk map around me,' you can grasp flood risk areas on a map at a glance without having to search for local weather one by one or look up information from multiple agencies."
Nalssidol also provides in-app real-time CCTV feeds of roads linked to disaster risk zones for situations where it is difficult to assess on-site conditions with map information alone.
In addition, the company installed its own sensors at 17 locations, including major commercial districts and transportation hubs in Seoul and Gyeonggi, as well as baseball stadiums nationwide, and displays real-time weather information on the map for areas near the sensor sites.
A Hecto Innovation official said, "Due to recent climate change, sudden downpours in specific areas that cause flood damage are becoming more frequent," adding, "Through Nalssidol's 'flood risk map around me,' which combines government-provided real-time CCTV and weather data with our own observation data, we hope people can recognize dangerous situations in advance and proactively prepare for flood damage."
