LG Uplus will team up with LS Electric to develop a next-generation direct current power system for high-density artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

The two companies said on the 22nd that they signed a memorandum of understanding on the 21st at LS Yongsan Tower in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, for "advancing AI data center power infrastructure and jointly developing and validating next-generation direct current power solutions." The two companies will jointly develop an 800-volt (V) direct current distribution technology that can cut conversion steps and losses, and plan to validate stability and energy efficiency in an ultra-high-density GPU server environment.

LG Uplus will provide power usage data and design know-how accumulated over 27 years of operating data centers. Based on this, LS Electric will develop power equipment for AI data centers and data analysis and diagnostics technology.

LG Uplus plans to strengthen its capabilities in data center design, construction, and operations on a "One LG" basis by linking LG Electronics' liquid cooling system, LG Energy Solution's uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries, and this power solution. The company said it has maintained 99.999% uptime in domestic data center operations.

LS Electric plans to build an integrated power solution covering equipment from extra-high voltage to low voltage based on its business experience in the North American data center market and to accelerate the commercialization of direct current distribution technology.
