Roblox will unveil an artificial intelligence (AI)-based creation tool that lets users make and release games in its mobile app using only text commands.
Roblox said on the 20th that it announced a creation tab exclusive to the mobile app, "Build," and new AI-based development tools on the 16th.
Build is a feature that automatically generates a game when a user enters a text prompt. If a user types, "Create an adventure game where you overcome obstacles in a cozy atmosphere set against a lush forest," the Build feature automatically generates an initial version of a game based on that. Users can freely modify the game or run playtests, then share it with friends or post it directly on Roblox.
Build is linked with Roblox Studio, Roblox's free game development tool. Thanks to this, users can continue developing in Roblox Studio what they started in the mobile app, or check on work in progress in Studio from a mobile device.
Roblox also plans to add AI agents that handle repetitive and simple development tasks through Build and Roblox Studio in the coming months. Representative examples include a playtest agent that detects bugs in advance; an analytics agent that provides analysis results related to game usage based on natural-language questions; and an experimentation agent that independently identifies and proposes tests to run to boost user engagement, retention, and monetization.
Meanwhile, Roblox is steadily expanding its AI-based game development tools. Recently, it released a "procedural model" that generates three-dimensional (3D) assets whose structure can be modified based on text or images. In addition, Cube, Roblox's own 3D foundation model, generates 3D objects that can be used in games with just a prompt, ranging from simple props to drivable vehicles. Roblox also plans to unveil a new scene-generation model that can build a complete 3D scene that can be edited and played with a single prompt.
Some features of Build will be offered in New Zealand in a public alpha starting on the 28th. During the test period, only users aged 9 or older who have completed age verification can use Build. The company plans to improve the features and expand the rollout regions and eligible users over the coming months.
Vlad Roktev, Roblox's chief of creator ecosystem, said, "This announcement is intended to help all creators, regardless of development experience, take advantage of new tools," adding, "While the new agent tools are meant to take on tedious work for professional creators, Build is meant to open the door to creation for all Roblox users, giving millions the opportunity to showcase their own games."
