LG Electronics unveiled a freezer-ice water purifier that uses artificial intelligence (AI) so users can get water and ice with voice alone.
LG Electronics said on the 16th it has released the "LG PuriCare AI freezer-ice water purifier," which, through voice commands, not only dispenses water but also controls appliances and provides daily information.
After saying "Hi LG," users can say "Give me 200 mL of cold water" or "Give me a cup of ice" to receive purified water, cold water, or ice without pressing a button. If users say "Stop" during dispensing, operation halts immediately.
The new product also applies an "AI personalized dispensing" feature that analyzes customers' usage patterns and recommends frequently used water temperatures and dispensing volumes. The product analyzes dispensing data from the past four weeks and proposes up to three personalized options.
It also supports a "recipe" function that automatically provides water at the right volume and temperature for 10 menus, including coffee mix, drip coffee, green tea, instant noodles, and infant formula.
The water purifier links with the AI home platform "LG ThinQ" to serve as an AI home hub. Users can control LG appliances registered in the ThinQ app—such as washers, dryers, air conditioners, air purifiers, refrigerators, and dishwashers—by voice and can also check daily information like weather and major news. LG Electronics plans to keep expanding the range of controllable products through software upgrades.
Hygiene management features were also strengthened. The internal stainless direct water pipe is automatically sterilized at high temperature once a week, and UVnano sterilization is applied to the water outlet and the ice outlet. A cup detection sensor is also built in so that water or ice does not dispense via voice command if a cup or container is not detected.
The front display was expanded from 4.3 inches to 6.8 inches so users can see key functions, weather, and energy usage status at a glance.
The new product is available for a monthly subscription fee of 53,900 won based on a six-year contract with a care manager visit every six months. Subscription customers receive regular care services, including free A/S, filter replacement, high-temperature and high-pressure sterilization of the direct water pipe and outlet, ice storage compartment maintenance, and disassembly inspection of the ice outlet.
Kim Jae-il, head of the Kitchen Solution Business Unit at the HS Business Division of LG Electronics, said, "We will expand our water purifier lineup tailored to living spaces and customer lifestyles and continue to provide differentiated, AI-based customer experiences."
