A labor union has also launched at Hyundai AutoEver, the IT services affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group.
On the 9th, according to related industry sources, the Hyundai AutoEver Labor Union Preparatory Committee announced the launch of the union through a companywide notice the previous day. In its founding declaration, the union said, "We proclaim the launch of the Hyundai AutoEver chapter labor union to uphold the dignity and value of labor and to pursue our just rights as workers."
The preparatory committee joined the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) National Chemical Fiber and Food Industry Union as a chapter. It has notified management of the union's establishment and formed an executive team to begin its activities.
The union argued that during the company's growth, members carried out their duties despite a shortage of personnel and excessive workloads. It also noted that the company's personnel evaluation standards are unfair and that a corporate culture that does not respect employees is pervasive. It is said to have presented improvements to the compensation system, personnel evaluations, and corporate culture as tasks to be addressed.
Earlier, Samsung SDS launched its first union in 41 years since its founding, and Hyundai AutoEver has now joined the ranks of domestic IT service corporations establishing unions. At both companies, employee dissatisfaction with compensation, including bonuses, and personnel evaluation systems is cited as the backdrop for unionization. In the industry, with IT service corporations restructuring their business models around AI and the cloud, voices are expected to grow for improvements to compensation systems, work arrangements, and corporate culture to secure and retain key talent.
