Kakao Mobility said on the 8th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Renault Korea for "next-generation vehicle experience innovation cooperation."
The two companies plan to jointly develop next-generation mobility services by integrating Kakao Mobility's high-definition maps, software, and in-car service technology into Renault Korea's vehicle platform.
First, they will jointly develop and validate high-definition map data and related software needed to implement advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). They also plan to advance next-generation in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and connected car services that link navigation, parking, and electric vehicle charging, and to identify user experiences (UX) suited to the future mobility environment.
The two companies revealed the direction of their cooperation at "NextRise 2026" on the 17th of last month. At the time, Renault Korea displayed a next-generation mobility concept car that applied Kakao Mobility's maps and mobility services to the "Grand Koleos."
Kakao Mobility said it will use this cooperation as a springboard to expand partnerships with domestic and overseas automakers. Centered on the in-vehicle KakaoNavi, including high-definition maps for ADAS and location-based technology, it will expand the "Kaowner" ecosystem—which integrates parking, charging, and vehicle management services—to vehicle platforms to strengthen competitiveness in the software-defined vehicle (SDV) era.
Ryu Geung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, said, "Through cooperation with automaker Renault Korea, we confirmed new synergies that can enable Kakao Mobility's technology and services to present a future direction for finished vehicles," adding, "We will continue to expand strategic partnerships with various automotive stakeholders, including global automakers, and lead future mobility experiences through next-generation mobility technology innovation."
