Samsung Electronics will unveil its new foldable phone series, Galaxy Z8, on the 22nd of this month. Samsung Electronics confirmed the schedule and hinted at the launch of a new model with a wider landscape ratio than existing products.
Samsung Electronics on the 8th sent invitations to media worldwide announcing it will hold Galaxy Unpacked 2026. The event will take place at 2 p.m. local time on the 22nd at Old Billingsgate in London, U.K., and will be streamed live on Samsung Electronics' newsroom, Samsung.com, YouTube, and other channels. In Korea Standard Time, the event will be held at 10 p.m. on the 22nd.
The company appears set to launch the Z Wide Fold, a passport-shaped device with a 4:3 ratio. The invitation depicts the top of a long ticket with the "Galaxy AI" logo being cut. From the cut portion, a box opens and star-shaped icons spring up. The phrase "A New Shape Unfolds" is also inserted on the ticket. This hints at the launch of a "wide fold" with a broader landscape ratio than existing models. It also reflects that as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) spreads across everyday life, mobile devices are becoming the key touchpoint for AI experiences.
Samsung Electronics on the 1st also released a new foldable phone teaser video on its global official Instagram and YouTube. The video features everyday scenes such as breaking a long bar of chocolate or splitting a sticker photo. This, too, hints at a different screen ratio and form factor from before, visually revealing the direction of the new foldable lineup.
The Galaxy Z8 series will launch in three models: the Z Wide Fold, Galaxy Z Flip8, and Z Fold8. The new products are expected to be somewhat pricier due to increases in major semiconductor components. This Unpacked will also unveil the "Galaxy Watch9" series and "AI Glass," Samsung's first glasses-type device.
