OpenAI said on the 6th that it will join the "CMK Social Welfare Innovation Leader Academy," jointly promoted by the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation, the Seoul National University Institute of Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, as a cooperation partner.
The CMK Social Welfare Innovation Leader Academy was prepared to strengthen innovative capabilities to respond to newly emerging social issues in the artificial intelligence (AI) era by selecting talented young social welfare researchers and field workers who can grow into next-generation leaders.
This academy selected a total of 30 people, including undergraduates in their junior year or higher and graduate students majoring in social welfare–related fields, and key social welfare field personnel with at least three years of experience who are 34 or younger. Participants will complete two overnight, two-day residential trainings at Seoul National University, then return to the social welfare field to carry out team projects for about three months.
The curriculum consists of: ▲ policy design to respond to new social risks, such as the rise of single-person households ▲ "space prescription," which explores solutions to social problems by using space ▲ mental health and integrated care ▲ advocacy for legal rights in daily life ▲ innovation in social welfare work using AI. Based on this, participants will experience the full process of defining real social problems and designing and carrying out solutions.
OpenAI plans to hold a hands-on hackathon on the 25th, using ChatGPT and Codex to structure complex social problems, analyze diverse materials, and derive actionable solutions for these key talents in the social welfare field.
Ko Ki-seok, head of policy at OpenAI Korea, said, "AI can be a tool that reduces administrative burdens in the social welfare field and helps practitioners focus more on their core work of caring for people and solving social problems," and added, "Through this academy, we hope participants build the capability to use AI for practical problem-solving in the field."
